O, sir, who is coming next to me.
I'm the youngest of those who are waiting for you in hectic longing.
I'm jobless as a prisoner.
Accused of looking ahead.
But I'm writing to you.
On behalf of the peasants and the seamen.
On behalf of the blacksmiths and the barbers.
The donkey drivers and the sailors.
The laborers and the businessmen.
The notables and the divan clerks.
The gatekeepers and the grocery boys.
On behalf of the poets and the guards.
The pyramids, Bab Al-Nasr (triumph gate), Al-Qanatir Al-Khayreiya (benevolent arches), Abde-Llah Al-Nadim, Taofiq Al-Hakim, Almaz, Shagarat Al-Dorr, the book of the dead and the national anthem "Beladi Beladi".
We wish you shall come very soon.
For patience has faded away.
And despair has extended.
Either you get us now.
Or you will never be able to get us later.

From "Layla wal magnoon-Layla and the manic".
Salah Abdel-Sabour.
Translated by me "Poeticsense".
